Residents of Tema Community One (Sites Three and Eight) have appealed to the government to intervene in a growing land dispute involving TDC Ghana Limited, accusing the state-owned development agency of violating an agreement meant to protect community recreational spaces.
The residents claim that portions of land reserved for public use, including a community playground and other facilities, are being converted for private development despite previous agreements and a court injunction.
Residents Accuse TDC of Breaching 2014 Agreement
According to the community members, a 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between residents and TDC Ghana Limited clearly outlined protections for specific areas of land.
The agreement, they said, was intended to preserve the spaces for community use, including the construction and maintenance of a playground and other public amenities.
However, residents allege that the current management of TDC has disregarded the agreement by clearing the protected green space and beginning construction activities on the site.
Court Injunction Allegedly Ignored
The dispute escalated after residents sought legal intervention and obtained a court injunction ordering a halt to activities on the disputed land.
Despite the court directive, residents claim that development activities have continued.
At a press conference, community representatives presented what they described as evidence showing TDC workers still operating on the site and carrying out construction activities despite the injunction.
They are now calling on the government to ensure that the court order is respected and that the original agreement protecting the community land is upheld.
Residents Demand Government Intervention
The affected homeowners are urging authorities to investigate the matter and compel TDC Ghana Limited to comply with the legal process.
They argue that losing the recreational space would negatively affect residents, particularly children and families who rely on the area for community activities.
TDC Rejects Allegations
TDC Ghana Limited has denied claims of wrongdoing, insisting that its actions are lawful and consistent with its responsibilities as a land development agency.
The company maintains that its activities fall within its corporate mandate and do not conflict with approved development plans for the Tema Acquisition Area.
TDC has also rejected suggestions that it is acting outside established planning frameworks, stating that its operations are guided by valid land management and development policies.
Dispute Remains Unresolved
The disagreement between Tema Community One residents and TDC Ghana Limited continues as both sides maintain opposing positions.
While residents insist that a legally protected community space is being unlawfully taken over, TDC maintains that the development is authorized.
The community is now looking to government intervention to help resolve the matter and determine the future of the disputed land.
