TGM Network Begins Renovation of Senior Correctional Centre Kitchen

TGM Network Begins Renovation

TGM Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to prison reform and youth rehabilitation, has cut sod for the renovation of the main kitchen and dining facilities at the Senior Correctional Centre in Roman Ridge, Accra.

The project will replace the centre’s deteriorating cooking structures with a modern, hygienic and properly equipped culinary facility.

The planned improvements include the installation of industrial stoves, better ventilation systems, sanitary food preparation counters and upgraded storage facilities.

These additions are expected to improve food safety, hygiene and nutritional standards for young offenders housed at the correctional centre. They will also provide kitchen staff with a safer and more efficient working environment.

Beyond preparing meals, the renovated kitchen will serve as a vocational training facility where inmates can acquire practical skills in cooking, catering and food management.

The training component is intended to equip beneficiaries with employable skills that can help them secure jobs or establish small businesses after completing their sentences.

Representatives of TGM Network said rehabilitation should extend beyond keeping offenders in custody. They stressed the importance of providing decent living conditions, nutritious meals, education and vocational opportunities capable of preparing young people for successful reintegration into society.

Officials at the Senior Correctional Centre welcomed the intervention and expressed gratitude to the organisation for supporting the facility.

They explained that limited government funding often makes it difficult for correctional institutions to renovate ageing infrastructure and provide all the resources required for effective rehabilitation.

The officers consequently called for stronger partnerships with private companies, charitable organisations and individuals to improve conditions within Ghana’s correctional facilities.

The kitchen renovation forms part of TGM Network’s wider commitment to supporting prison reform and creating opportunities for young offenders to rebuild their lives after release.
