Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held a bilateral meeting with Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maxim Ryzhenkov, in Accra to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The discussions focused on turning the growing goodwill between Ghana and Belarus into practical economic and political partnerships.
During the meeting, both ministers explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in key sectors including agriculture, education, trade, investment, and technology. A major part of the discussions centered on agricultural mechanization, with Ghana expressing interest in benefiting from Belarus’ expertise in advanced farming equipment and technical training to support the modernization of its agricultural sector.
The two sides also discussed measures to improve travel and mobility between their countries. Minister Ablakwa proposed visa facilitation arrangements to make it easier for citizens and businesses to travel. Among the documents under consideration is a visa-free agreement for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
Preparations for a future official visit by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama to Belarus were also reviewed during the meeting. Both ministers discussed the possibility of signing several agreements to strengthen institutional cooperation, including deals on customs collaboration, investment protection, and the creation of a Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Security cooperation was another area of discussion, with both countries expressing interest in strengthening political collaboration and working together on counter-terrorism efforts.
The meeting marked the conclusion of a two-day working visit to Ghana by Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov. During his stay, he also met with Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, where discussions focused on potential investments in local processing industries, including factories for cocoa products and milk powder.
