U.S. Embassy Encourages Accra Girls Students to Lead with Confidence

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has urged students at Accra Girls

The U.S. Embassy in Accra has encouraged students of Accra Girls Senior High School to embrace self-belief, seek mentorship and develop leadership skills following a screening of Young Washington.

Held at the American Space as part of Freedom 250 activities, the event brought together selected students and invited guests for the documentary and an interactive discussion.

Hannah Fitter, the embassy’s Regional Public Engagement Specialist for Coastal West Africa, led the discussion, highlighting perseverance and optimism as important qualities for young people preparing for their futures.

She encouraged students to draw on the experiences of others while remaining confident enough to make independent choices.

“Learn from those who have been through similar trials and tribulations, but then also be brave to set your own path forward,” she said.

Fitter also stressed the importance of finding mentors who could offer guidance through academic and personal challenges.

Commending educational opportunities in Ghana, she said access to affordable secondary and university education provided a foundation for young people to progress. She encouraged students to make constructive use of those opportunities while navigating pressures from peers and celebrity culture.
