An 18-year-old Ghanaian living in the United States, Michael Sakyi Jr., has tragically died after being shot in Manassas, Virginia, in an incident that has left both the local community and Ghanaians abroad in mourning.
According to the Prince William County Police Department, officers responded to reports of a vehicle crash in the 7900 block of Community Drive. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found Sakyi Jr. unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into an unoccupied parked car.
Victim Found with Gunshot Wound
While initially responding to what appeared to be a traffic collision, officers quickly discovered that Sakyi Jr. had suffered a severe gunshot wound to his upper body.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police immediately launched a homicide investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Suspect Arrested
Investigators swiftly identified 21-year-old Jamal Dana Allen as the primary suspect in the case.
Allen has since been arrested and formally charged with second-degree murder, along with multiple firearm-related offenses. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the events leading up to the shooting or a possible motive.
The investigation remains ongoing.
