An aspiring Agona West Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Egyin Nicholas Buadu, has promised to establish income-generating businesses for the party’s wards and branches if elected.
The initiative seeks to give grassroots structures a reliable source of funding, reducing their dependence on constituency, regional and national executives for financial support.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Buadu said proposals and business plans had already been prepared to support fundraising for the ventures. He explained that the businesses would help local party leaders finance their activities and address persistent resource shortages.
According to him, inadequate funding often discourages grassroots organizers and disrupts party work. He believes strengthening the financial capacity of wards and branches would help them operate more effectively.
Mr Buadu said the proposal was informed by findings from his campaign tour, during which interactions with party members highlighted the need for sustainable funding at the local level.
His pledge comes ahead of the NDC’s Agona West constituency executive elections, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026. The constituency’s election committee has cleared 41 aspirants to compete for 16 executive positions.
Mr. Buadu, the immediate past election committee chairman, is seeking the constituency chairmanship against two other contenders. The elections will determine the constituency leadership responsible for coordinating local party activities as the NDC prepares for the 2028 general elections.
