Retired Captain Solomon Jabari Wins NDC Chairmanship in Atwima Kwanwoma

Retired Ghana Armed Forces Captain Solomon Reuben Jabari has been elected Chairman of the National Democratic Congress in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, defeating incumbent Simon Aloonga by a wide margin.

Jabari secured 1,319 votes in the constituency executive elections held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, while Aloonga received 263 votes.

Before his election, Jabari served as Chairman of the party’s Ahenema Kokoben-Island City branch. His campaign focused on strengthening grassroots participation and addressing divisions within the constituency.

He argued during the contest that grassroots executives had been sidelined and that shortcomings in the constituency’s leadership had weakened the party’s local organization.

His bid attracted endorsements from local delegates, while his community development efforts also drew public attention. He personally financed the rehabilitation of an eight-kilometer stretch of damaged roads connecting communities including Brofoyedru, Nkoranza, Twedie and Kotwi.

Following his victory, Jabari pledged to bring together opposing factions and work with party elders, executives and members to rebuild unity.

He identified stronger cooperation between constituency leaders and branch officials as a priority, alongside efforts to develop a more effective grassroots mobilisation network.

The new chairman said a united party would be essential as the NDC prepares to challenge the New Patriotic Party in Atwima Kwanwoma during the 2028 general elections.
