President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed that the Free Senior High School (SHS) program will not be discontinued under his administration. Instead, he pledged to improve and refine its implementation.
Speaking during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, Mahama acknowledged concerns about how the program was rolled out, stating that its implementation “left much to be desired.”
“I, John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, will not cancel the Free SHS programme,” he declared.
Mahama had previously assured Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign that he would not scrap the initiative but rather work to strengthen and enhance its effectiveness.
