President John Dramani Mahama has announced the introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Ghana’s foreign missions, marking the first time such a framework has been adopted in the country’s diplomatic history.

Speaking at the commissioning of newly appointed ambassadors, President Mahama described the move as a critical step toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and results-driven diplomacy.

“For the first time in Ghana’s diplomatic practice, we have launched Key Performance Indicators as a structured framework to guide your work,” he stated. “This signals a new era of clarity, accountability, and measurable outcomes in our foreign service.”

The President explained that the KPIs are not intended as mere bureaucratic tools, but as instruments to ensure that every diplomatic effort aligns with Ghana’s national priorities.

“I assure you that I will personally monitor progress under this framework as part of our commitment to results-oriented diplomacy,” he added.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader Reset Agenda, which President Mahama described as a bold and strategic vision to restore public confidence, rebuild trust, and accelerate Ghana’s path to prosperity.

“The Reset Agenda is our blueprint – a bold vision to restore hope in our people, rebuild trust, and rekindle the movement towards prosperity,” he said.

Although much of the Reset Agenda is domestically focused, the President urged the new ambassadors to advance its principles globally by fostering strategic partnerships, unlocking economic opportunities, and strengthening Ghana’s international presence.

“Your role is to extend this agenda abroad by cultivating partnerships, creating opportunities, and deepening Ghana’s place in the global community,” he emphasized.
