Ghanaian actress Luckie Lawson believes that renowned movie producer/director and CEO of Sparrows Pictures, Shirley Frimpong Manso, deserves more recognition. Despite the accolades she has received for her works, such as Perfect Picture, Potomanto, and Shampaign, Lawson feels Manso’s achievements are still overshadowed in a male-dominated industry.

“Shirley needs to be celebrated for her significant contributions to the growth of Ghana’s movie industry,” Lawson expressed in an interview with Graphic Showbiz. “Typically, the producer/director role is dominated by men, but Shirley has proven herself to be one of the best movie producers, successfully challenging the status quo. I truly admire her for that.”

Lawson emphasized Manso’s resilient spirit, which has earned her great admiration. She sees Manso as an inspiration and hopes to follow in her footsteps. “I have always admired Shirley from a distance, and it’s worth expressing how I feel about her. Shirley deserves recognition for her contributions to the movie industry. Despite the male dominance, she has emerged as one of the finest movie producers, challenging men and excelling in her craft,” Lawson asserted.

Known for her roles in films like Cotton Twines (2016), Familiar Strangers (2011), and Silence is Golden (2010), Lawson recently collaborated with Manso on the new series Madam. Reflecting on the experience, Lawson expressed her happiness at gaining more expertise. “I knew she was one of the best, but I didn’t realize she had such an unwavering determination to achieve her vision. She wouldn’t hesitate to ask for multiple takes to perfect a particular scene,” Lawson shared.

“In fact, many actors refuse to work with her because she demands the best. Working with her on Madam brought me closer to her, and my admiration for her has only grown. Some of us aspire to be like her and continue her outstanding work. While I have produced movies myself, Shirley operates on another level,” Lawson concluded.
