Shop managers summoned by GRA

The Domestic Tax Compliance Taskforce of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has summoned eleven shop managers to undergo thorough investigations into their business operations.

These shop owners are facing allegations of issuing selective VAT invoices and failing to comply with tax regulations, resulting in significant revenue losses for the state.

The GRA taskforce conducted a comprehensive inspection of 11 retail shops located in the Lashibi and Spintex areas. Assistant Commissioner Joseph Annan, who oversees the Accra region of the GRA, informed the media that appropriate sanctions would be applied.
Announcing the findings, he stated, “Our exercise involved a combination of test purchases and compliance checks.

When a business violates the law, it entails some form of punishment. The VAT Act outlines the available options for punishment. This is where preemptive assessment comes into play, serving as the basis for future penalties. We are inviting them to our office, and once they arrive, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will take over the case.”
