The United States Embassy in Accra has announced the release of more than 2,000 additional B1/B2 visa appointment slots for applicants in Accra as of March 4, 2026. The new interview slots are available for travelers who are able to attend appointments within the next two weeks.
The appointments are specifically for B1/B2 visa applicants, which cover short-term travel such as business trips, tourism, family visits, and attendance at major international events. The embassy noted that the additional slots are partly intended to assist Ghanaians planning to travel to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Applicants who already have visa interviews scheduled later in the year are being encouraged to log into the official U.S. visa appointment portal and try to reschedule to one of the newly opened earlier dates. The embassy said the move is part of ongoing efforts to reduce visa backlogs and shorten waiting times for short-term travelers.
Officials are also reminding applicants to ensure their DS-160 forms are completed accurately and that all required documents are prepared before attending their interviews. Due to high demand, the embassy expects the available slots to fill quickly and is advising travelers to check the scheduling portal regularly.
In addition, the embassy cautioned prospective travelers, including those attending the World Cup, to comply fully with U.S. immigration laws and avoid overstaying their visas.
