Donald Trump, the former US President, is set to travel from Florida to New York City for his arraignment related to a payment made to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 elections. The arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at the central Manhattan courthouse, where he is expected to be arraigned, fingerprinted, and photographed. Trump’s lawyers have indicated he will plead not guilty, but the specific charges in the grand jury indictment are yet to be disclosed.
On Sunday, Trump announced on Truth Social Media that he would leave Mar-a-Lago on Monday at noon and head to Trump Tower in New York; before going to the courthouse on Tuesday.
The investigation, led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, focuses on a $130,000 payment made by Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to adult film star Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels.
The arraignment is scheduled for 2:15 pm on Tuesday, and Trump’s office has announced he will return to Florida after delivering remarks at Mar-a-Lago. Barricades have been erected along the sidewalks near Trump Tower and the Manhattan Court building ahead of Trump’s arraignment.
Demonstrations are expected, and the New York Police Department has alerted officers, who are ready to respond as needed.
