The Upper East Regional Police Command is urging the families of deceased individuals, whose bodies are currently held at the Upper East Regional Hospital Morgue, to come forward and identify their loved ones for burial. Failure to do so will leave the authorities with no choice but to proceed with mass burial.
Presently, the Command has 27 bodies in their morgue that remain unidentified. It is crucial to address this situation promptly to alleviate congestion in the morgue.
These unidentified bodies were collected from various regional locations from 2020 to 2023.
In a statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police David Fianko-Okyere, it was emphasized that this initiative aims to create space in the morgue, facilitating the efficient operations of the hospital and providing an appropriate burial for the deceased.
The statement cautions that if, after the next 21 days, which concludes on August 1, 2023, the bodies remain unclaimed in the mortuary, a mass burial will be conducted to ease the space constraints.
Individuals ready to identify their deceased relatives and claim their bodies for burial must contact the Medical Director in Bolgatanga or the Upper East Regional Police Command for further guidance.
