Biden should prioritize domestic issues over foreign affairs, said far-right US lawmakers criticizing the president’s trip to Kyiv.
Republicans in the United States are slamming Joe Biden’s Ukraine visit, charging the President ignored the challenges at home while pledging his support for Kiev.
US legislators who are skeptical of US support for Ukraine opposed Biden’s previously unannounced visit on Monday.
Biden’s “leadership” in supporting Ukraine against the Russian invasion was lauded by Democrats, despite complaints from some Republicans. Many Democrats lauded Biden’s visit to Kyiv, which came days before the first anniversary of the invasion.
Many Republicans criticized Biden for leaving the country on Presidents’ Day, a holiday honoring the country’s first president, George Washington. Additionally, they mentioned a “crisis” at the southern border of the US, where asylum seekers are seeking protection.
As part of his visit, Biden announced an additional $500 million in aid for Ukraine. Washington has provided billions of dollars of assistance to Kyiv since the invasion began last year.
