After being declared the winner in the NPP parliamentary polls on Sunday, Ernest Yaw Anim, the newly elected candidate for Kumawu, dissolved his campaign team. He clarified that this was done to promote unity within the party to prepare for the upcoming May 23, 2023, by-election in Kumawu, triggered by the passing of Philip Basoah, the former NPP MP for the constituency. He announced plans to form an all-inclusive campaign team that would involve all members of the NPP to aid in retaining the seat.
In the polls, Yaw Anim received 195 votes, Ama Serwah received 181, Da-Costa Aboagye received 27, Kwame Appiah-Kubi received 10, and Osei-Hweree Kwame Bempah received only 5. In a media address following his victory, Yaw Anim emphasized the need for unity and peace in the NPP in Kumawu to hold on to the seat. He urged party members to embrace harmony and unity at all times, noting that the party’s performance in the by-election would be better if they did so.
Yaw Anim stressed the triumph was not just his but a victory for all NPP members in Kumawu. All the candidates who lost in the election congratulated him and pledged their support. Ama Serwah, the All-up, supported Yaw Anim in his bid to win the Kumawu seat for the NPP.
