One Dead, Three Security Officers Injured in Violent Clash Near Dominase Onion Market

ONION..

A violent confrontation between security personnel and suspected criminals near the Dominase Onion Market in the Central Region has resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to three security officers.

The incident occurred in the Gomoa East District during a raid targeting suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of attacks along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

The operation, authorized by the Gomoa East District Security Council in collaboration with the Central East Regional Police Command, was part of a broader effort to clamp down on criminal activity in the area.

Eyewitnesses say tensions escalated when security officers began demolishing makeshift shelters suspected to be harboring criminals—often referred to locally as “ghetto boys.” During the raid, officers reportedly seized weapons and illegal drugs from some suspects.

Tragedy struck when one civilian, allegedly linked to the group, was killed during the demolition exercise. His death triggered a violent retaliation from the suspects, who attacked security personnel using machetes, stones, and sticks.

The clash left two police officers and one immigration officer injured. They are currently receiving medical attention at the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic and the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

Amid the chaos, two drip machines were vandalized, and a police patrol vehicle was damaged by the assailants.

In response, the Gomoa East District Assembly and police authorities condemned the attack and assured the public that investigations are ongoing. They also pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore order to the area.
