Taiwan has resumed accepting visa applications from Moroccan nationals, ending a suspension introduced in July during a dispute over travel documentation for Taiwanese passport holders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that processing restarted on Monday, October 12, 2026, after receiving official confirmation that Morocco had resumed accepting Taiwanese applications on September 21.
The dispute began when Morocco’s embassy in Japan stopped reviewing Visa Confirmation Letter applications from Taiwanese travelers on July 23 without explaining the decision. Taiwan responded by suspending Moroccan visa applications from July 31, while retaining exceptions for government-approved special projects.
Taiwanese passport holders must obtain the confirmation letters through Moroccan embassies abroad because they are not eligible for Morocco’s electronic visa system.
In late September, Taiwanese officials were still seeking clarification on whether Morocco’s reopening covered non-tourism travel as well as tourist applications. The ministry’s latest announcement confirmed Taiwan’s reciprocal reopening but did not explicitly resolve that distinction.
Separately, Taiwan’s visa and entry restrictions affecting residents of the Democratic Republic of Congo remain in force until November 28, 2026, because of Ebola-related public health concerns.
The 90-day extension was announced in August, rather than alongside Monday’s Moroccan visa decision. Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control said the measure followed a review of the outbreak and existing border controls. Limited exemptions remain available.
Taiwan initially introduced restrictions on residents of both the DRC and Uganda on June 2. Following a subsequent health assessment, authorities lifted the measures affecting Uganda on August 28 while extending those applying to the DRC.
The Moroccan decision therefore restores visa processing on the basis of reciprocity, while the continuing DRC restrictions form part of Taiwan’s response to the regional Ebola emergency.
