Kuwait and Algeria have held talks on expanding pharmaceutical cooperation, with a focus on sharing manufacturing expertise and strengthening the supply of medicines and medical products.
The discussions took place in Algiers on Sunday, October 11, 2026, when Kuwait’s ambassador, Nawaf Boushiba, met Algeria’s Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouidri, alongside senior sector officials.
According to a statement from the Kuwaiti Embassy, both sides expressed interest in closer cooperation between their pharmaceutical industries. Boushiba praised Algerian manufacturers for their contribution to meeting domestic demand and highlighted opportunities for Kuwait to benefit from their experience.
The meeting also examined prospects for Algerian pharmaceutical companies to supply the Kuwaiti market, Algeria’s Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry said.
Boushiba called for meetings between specialists from both countries to exchange expertise, identify shared priorities and develop practical proposals for collaboration. The discussions covered pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical supplies, although the reports did not announce a signed investment agreement or implementation timetable.
The talks come as Algeria seeks to expand the international reach of its pharmaceutical sector. Speaking at a conference earlier this month, Kouidri said the country had approximately 230 pharmaceutical companies and recorded production worth US$4.9 billion in 2025.
According to the minister, locally manufactured medicines meet 82 per cent of domestic pharmaceutical market needs by value.
Algeria is also developing plans for a strategic pharmaceutical platform to supply African countries with medicines and essential health products, including vaccines. The proposed initiative would bring together manufacturing, regulatory, logistics and technology-transfer capabilities to support wider access to medical products across the continent.
