Praying with Scripture is one of the most meaningful ways a wife can support her husband. By applying God’s Word to his needs and circumstances, she can pray specifically for his wisdom, strength, protection, work, character and relationships.
Proverbs 3:5–6 encourages believers to trust God completely instead of depending solely on their understanding. A wife can pray: “Father, help my husband to trust You with his whole heart. Remove the pressure to solve every problem alone and guide him as he acknowledges You in his decisions. Direct his steps and make his path clear.”
James 1:5 teaches that God generously gives wisdom to those who ask. This can become the prayer: “Lord, give my husband the wisdom he needs to lead our family, manage his responsibilities and make difficult decisions. Give him a humble and teachable heart that turns to You whenever he is uncertain.”
Ephesians 3:16–17 speaks about receiving inner strength through the Holy Spirit and becoming rooted in Christ’s love. A wife may pray: “Lord, strengthen my husband through Your Spirit. Renew him when he is tired and protect him from discouragement and burnout. Let his identity remain firmly grounded in Your love.”
Philippians 4:6–7 directs believers to replace anxiety with prayer and thanksgiving, trusting God’s peace to guard their hearts and minds. The prayer can be: “Father, protect my husband from stress, fear and anxious thoughts. Teach him to surrender every burden to You. Let Your peace guard his mind and emotions through Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 90:17 asks God to establish the work of His people’s hands. A wife can pray: “Lord, let Your favour rest upon my husband. Give him purpose and diligence in his work, and establish everything he does according to Your will. May his workplace become an avenue for growth, positive influence and provision.”
Proverbs 10:9 teaches that those who live with integrity walk securely. This can inspire the prayer: “God, help my husband to remain honest and upright in every situation. Give him courage to choose what is right even when it is difficult. Protect his reputation and grant him the confidence that comes from living faithfully before You.”
Second Thessalonians 3:3 declares that God is faithful and able to strengthen and protect His people from evil. A wife may pray: “Heavenly Father, establish my husband firmly in You. Protect his body, mind and spirit. Guard him from danger, harmful influences and every scheme intended to distract him from Your purpose.”
First Corinthians 10:13 promises that God will provide a way to resist temptation. The prayer can be: “Lord, guard my husband’s heart, eyes and actions. Make him sensitive to Your presence when he feels vulnerable. Give him the wisdom and courage to recognise and take the way of escape You provide.”
Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit, including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. A wife can pray: “Holy Spirit, produce Your fruit in my husband’s life. Fill him with patience, kindness, faithfulness and self-control. Help him speak words that encourage our family and bring peace into our home.”
Ephesians 5:25 calls husbands to love their wives with the sacrificial love Christ demonstrated toward the Church. This can become the prayer: “Father, empower my husband to love with humility, kindness and sacrifice. Help him lead our marriage by serving rather than controlling. Strengthen our unity and teach us to honor, forgive and support one another.”
Praying these Scriptures does not mean demanding perfection from a husband. It means entrusting him to God and asking the Holy Spirit to strengthen him in areas where human ability is insufficient.
Consistent prayer can also transform the heart of the person praying. It encourages gratitude, patience and compassion while helping a wife see her husband through the lens of God’s grace rather than only through his weaknesses.
A praying wife cannot control every challenge her husband may face, but she can continually place his life, decisions and future in God’s hands, trusting that the Lord is faithful to guide, protect and strengthen him.
