Scripture Focus: John 10:10 (KJV)
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
God is the giver of life and every good gift. Through Jesus Christ, He offers us forgiveness, peace and the hope of eternal life. Sin, however, draws us away from the life God desires for us.
Sin can appear attractive. It may promise pleasure, freedom or satisfaction, but those promises do not reveal the full cost. What begins as a moment of enjoyment can lead to regret, damaged relationships and spiritual emptiness.
The life Jesus offers
In John 10:10, Jesus speaks of the abundant life He came to give. This does not mean that believers will never face hardship or that faith guarantees material wealth. It means we can know life in relationship with Christ, sustained by His grace and the hope of eternity.
When we compare God’s gifts with the effects of sin, the difference becomes clear:
- God gives peace; sin can bring guilt.
- God gives joy; sin can bring sorrow.
- God gives freedom; sin can lead to bondage.
- God gives life; sin leads to death.
Romans 6:23 reminds us:
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23 (KJV)
Grace and restoration
The enemy may try to persuade us that disobedience offers something better than God’s plan. Yet no temporary pleasure can compare with the lasting gift of life in Christ.
Even when we fall, we do not have to remain in shame. God offers forgiveness and restoration to those who turn to Him in repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. His grace helps us leave sin behind and walk in obedience to His Word.
Spiritual lesson: Never trade what God has given you for what sin temporarily promises.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the giver of life, peace, joy and salvation. Help me recognise the deceptive nature of sin and give me the strength to resist temptation. Guard my heart against anything that seeks to separate me from Your presence. Teach me to value Your blessings above temporary pleasures and to walk daily in obedience to Your Word. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
God gives what sin can never offer, and sin takes what only God can restore.
