“Jesus is coming—are you ready” remains one of the most enduring messages in Christianity. Rooted in the New Testament, the statement expresses belief in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ while challenging every person to examine their spiritual condition.
The return of Christ, commonly described as the Second Coming or Parousia, is a central Christian doctrine. Scripture teaches that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead, establish justice and bring God’s Kingdom to its complete fulfilment.
Jesus warned His followers that the precise time of His return would not be known. Matthew 24:44 states, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
This warning does not encourage Christians to spend their lives predicting dates. Instead, it calls them to remain spiritually prepared at all times.
The Parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25:1-13 reinforces this message. Five of the women were prepared when the bridegroom arrived, while the others were caught unready. The lesson is that spiritual preparation cannot be delayed until the final moment.
Being ready for Christ’s return begins with faith, repentance and a sincere relationship with God. It involves recognizing sin, seeking forgiveness and placing trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Readiness must also be demonstrated through everyday conduct. Christians are called to live with integrity, show compassion, forgive others, pursue justice and love their neighbors.
Preparing for Christ’s return does not mean abandoning earthly responsibilities. It means faithfully using one’s time, abilities and resources to serve God and humanity while sharing the message of the gospel.
For some people, the announcement of Christ’s return sounds like a warning. For believers, however, it is also a message of hope. It points to a future in which evil, suffering, injustice and death will not have the final word.
The phrase continues to appear on billboards, church banners, street signs, bumper stickers and Christian literature around the world. Whether presented as an urgent call to repentance or a promise of redemption, its central question remains deeply personal.
Jesus is coming—but readiness is not merely about knowing that He will return. It is about living faithfully today as though He could return at any moment.
