Namibia’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Mrs Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, has embarked on a three-day familiarization tour of the Volta Region to explore opportunities for trade, investment and development cooperation.
The diplomatic visit covered several municipal and district areas, including Anloga, Keta and Ketu South, giving the High Commissioner an opportunity to assess the region’s economic potential and engage stakeholders outside Accra.
The tour forms part of efforts to strengthen relations between Ghana and Namibia through industrial partnerships, educational exchanges and increased trade.
During her engagements, Mrs Nghituwamata held discussions with representatives of the Volta, Eastern and Oti regional branch of the Association of Ghana Industries.
The talks focused on sectors with the potential to support mutually beneficial partnerships, including textiles, manufacturing, agro-processing and other forms of value-added production.
The High Commissioner indicated that Ghanaian businesses could play an important role as Namibia seeks to diversify its sources of imports and strengthen commercial relationships with other African countries.
She also emphasized the need for African economies to reduce their dependence on external markets by trading more among themselves and developing regional supply chains.
The African Continental Free Trade Area presents an important platform through which Ghanaian and Namibian businesses can exchange finished products, industrial expertise and investment opportunities.
With the AfCFTA Secretariat headquartered in Accra, Ghana occupies a strategic position in efforts to create a more integrated continental market. The agreement is expected to reduce trade barriers and improve the movement of goods and services across participating countries.
Mrs Nghituwamata’s visits to Anloga, Keta and Ketu South also provided insight into the economic activities and development priorities of coastal communities in the region.
Potential areas for cooperation include aquaculture, agro-processing, tourism and logistics. The coastal environment and cultural heritage of the region could also support partnerships in hospitality and destination development.
Local businesses may benefit from access to new markets in Namibia, while Namibian investors could explore opportunities to support processing, manufacturing and infrastructure projects in the Volta Region.
Beyond trade and investment, educational cooperation emerged as another important area for engagement. Partnerships between schools, universities and technical institutions could promote academic exchanges, research and skills development.
The tour also allowed the High Commissioner to interact directly with business leaders, traditional authorities and local government representatives. Such decentralized diplomatic engagement can help foreign missions gain a clearer understanding of opportunities available beyond Ghana’s capital.
Following the formal presentation of her diplomatic credentials, the regional visit signals Namibia’s intention to translate its relationship with Ghana into practical commercial and development outcomes.
Ghana and Namibia share historical and diplomatic ties as members of the African Union and other multilateral organizations. Both countries have also expressed support for greater South-South cooperation and stronger African participation in global economic decision-making.
The High Commissioner’s tour is expected to lay the foundation for further discussions between businesses and public institutions in the two countries.
By connecting investors, manufacturers, educational institutions and regional administrations, Ghana and Namibia could turn their diplomatic relationship into partnerships that create jobs, expand trade and promote sustainable development.
