Bank of Ghana Blacklists 20 Unlicensed Digital Loan Apps

The Bank of Ghana has published a list of 20 digital credit applications accused of operating illegally in the country and warned the public to stop conducting business with them.

The warning was contained in Public Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2026/25, issued by the central bank on Monday, August 3, 2026.

According to the regulator, the listed platforms are providing digital credit services without the required authorization, in violation of Ghana’s Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers introduced in September 2025.

The Bank of Ghana said the activities of unlicensed digital lenders expose borrowers to significant consumer-protection, privacy and financial-security risks.

The 20 platforms identified by the central bank are:

  1. Adamfo Loan
  2. Agyapacredit
  3. Amanfi Loan, also reported as Atuani Loan
  4. Arco Cash
  5. Aya Lend
  6. Bucks Now
  7. CediGo
  8. CGrab, also reported as Criab
  9. Dumbo Cash
  10. FCash
  11. Gh Loans
  12. Gh Loans Pro
  13. Hasty Credit
  14. Newgry Money Tree
  15. Omanpesa
  16. PoPoCedi
  17. Ready Money
  18. Sika Tap
  19. Sikapa Loan
  20. Zigwe Loan

The central bank warned that some unauthorised lending applications collect excessive amounts of personal information after being installed on users’ mobile phones.

This may include access to contact lists, photographs and other sensitive information unrelated to determining whether a customer qualifies for credit.

Some operators allegedly use the information to harass or publicly shame borrowers who miss repayment deadlines. The tactics may include sending threatening messages to customers or contacting their relatives, friends, employers and other people found in their phone directories.

The regulator also raised concerns about excessive interest rates, unclear repayment terms and the absence of effective complaint-resolution systems on unlicensed platforms.

Because the operators function outside the approved regulatory framework, customers may have limited options for seeking redress when subjected to unfair treatment or misuse of their personal information.

To restrict the operations of the blacklisted lenders, the Bank of Ghana directed commercial banks, specialized deposit-taking institutions and mobile payment service providers not to facilitate transactions on their behalf.

The order is intended to cut off the financial channels used by the platforms to distribute loans and collect repayments.

Members of the public were advised to confirm that a digital credit provider is licensed before applying for a loan or submitting personal information.

The central bank reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the country’s digital lending regulations and protecting consumers from unauthorised financial service providers.
