The US dollar was quoted at a selling rate of GH¢12.25 at forex bureaus on Friday, October 2, 2026, as the Ghana cedi continued to face pressure from demand for foreign currency.
Figures published by Modern Ghana, citing CediRates, placed the bureau buying rate at GH¢11.90. This means customers selling dollars received GH¢11.90 per dollar, while those purchasing dollars paid GH¢12.25.
The same report quoted Bank of Ghana interbank rates of GH¢11.71 for buying and GH¢11.72 for selling, placing the bureau selling rate 53 pesewas above the reported interbank equivalent.
Other major currencies also showed differences between retail and interbank quotations. The reported rates, expressed in cedis per unit of foreign currency, were:
| Currency | Bureau buying rate | Bureau selling rate | Reported interbank rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| US dollar | GH¢11.90 | GH¢12.25 | GH¢11.71 buying / GH¢11.72 selling |
| British pound | GH¢15.41 | GH¢16.33 | GH¢15.46 |
| Euro | GH¢13.18 | GH¢14.01 | GH¢13.16 |
The report did not separately identify buying and selling interbank quotations for the pound and euro.
The retail figures come amid sustained demand for dollars from businesses. In an assessment reported by Joy Business on September 29, Databank Research attributed pressure on the cedi to foreign-exchange demand from the energy and manufacturing sectors, alongside relatively tight interbank supply.
The research firm also expected seasonal demand ahead of the Christmas trading period to keep the currency under mild depreciation pressure.
Separately, Trading Economics placed the USD/GHS market rate at GH¢11.745 on October 2. Its data showed the dollar gaining 3.40 per cent against the cedi over the preceding month, while remaining 6.04 per cent below its level a year earlier.
Those movements indicate that the cedi’s recent losses have occurred alongside a stronger position against the dollar than it held 12 months ago.
