The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it lost GH¢200 million to a licensed gold dealer, describing the allegations as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, GoldBod denied reports that Dominic Bonsu, owner of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, had absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the institution. The Board also rejected claims that Mr. Bonsu had previously worked as a bodyguard for GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
GoldBod said Mr. Bonsu had never served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to the Chief Executive, describing any claim suggesting otherwise as completely false.
The Board further clarified that it had not advanced GH¢200 million or any other amount to Mr. Bonsu or his company.
According to GoldBod, Dominic Bonsu Ventures became the subject of an investigation over suspected breaches of the conditions of its licence and the GoldBod Trading Directives under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
The investigation subsequently led to the suspension of the company’s licence and enforcement action against Mr. Bonsu.
GoldBod said Mr. Bonsu was later arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, with legal proceedings against him still ongoing.
The institution expressed concern about what it described as efforts to distort the facts of the case through misinformation and urged the public to disregard the social media claims.
It advised the public to rely on information issued through GoldBod’s official communication channels for accurate updates on the matter.
