The Director of the International Monetary Fund’s African Department, Zeine Zeidane, has praised Ghana’s economic performance, saying the country is now in a strong position.
“Ghana is in a very good place,” he said.
Mr Zeidane made the remarks during a meeting with Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on the sidelines of the ongoing IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

He commended Ghana’s performance under the IMF’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme, describing it as a success and praising the government’s efforts to improve economic management.
“I want to first commend you on how you are performing. The ECF was a great success,” he said.

He added that Ghana’s progress had become an example for other countries to follow.
“We tell others to follow your steps,” he stated.
Mr Zeidane also praised the use of artificial intelligence in customs administration and acknowledged the government’s work on state-owned enterprises and stock-flow adjustments.
His comments come after the IMF raised Ghana’s economic growth forecast for 2026 to 5.7%, up from the 4.6% projected in April.
Reacting to the revised forecast, Dr Forson said the government expected the economy to perform even better than the IMF’s latest projection.

He said the government would continue to manage the economy with discipline and credibility to sustain the recovery and achieve stronger growth.
Mr Zeidane concluded by reaffirming his positive assessment of Ghana’s economic outlook, saying the country was “in a very good place.”
