MTN Ghana has renewed its commitment to expanding opportunities for women to lead, build businesses and participate in the country’s digital economy.
In a virtual goodwill message to the Executive Women Network’s 10th Anniversary Conference and Expo in Accra, Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett said inclusive leadership was essential to stronger organizations and societies.
He commended EWN for developing women leaders and encouraging entrepreneurship, while calling for continued efforts to remove barriers and provide mentorship for younger women.
Speaking at the event, MTN Ghana’s Chief Financial Officer, Antoinette Kwofie, said internet access alone was insufficient to help women entrepreneurs succeed. She stressed the importance of combining connectivity with practical skills, business tools and support services.
Kwofie highlighted MTN’s Adwuma platform as part of that approach and encouraged established leaders to create opportunities for others through mentorship and professional support.
The company’s inclusion strategy also extends to its workforce. MTN Ghana has set a target of achieving 50 per cent female representation by 2030.
In an earlier update on its Graduate Development Program, Acting Chief Human Resource Officer Abdallah Ibrahim said women accounted for about 60 per cent of graduate delegates. He reported that female representation within MTN Ghana stood at approximately 43 per cent at the time of the 2025 program update.
Beyond recruitment, MTN is supporting enterprise development through its 2026 SME Accelerate initiative, launched in March. The year-long program includes training, certification, business fairs and opportunities for entrepreneurs to reach new markets.
Chief Enterprise Business Officer Angela Mensah-Poku said the initiative would also help businesses formalize their operations and improve documentation, addressing obstacles that can prevent small enterprises from accessing finance.
Among the digital services highlighted were Ajumapa, which supports women-owned businesses, and Yellow Biz, which offers internet access, email and website services. The program is being implemented with partners including Mastercard and GIZ.
