The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has intensified public education on petroleum safety and consumer protection during the 2026 Asogli Te Zã, or Yam Festival, in Ho in the Volta Region.
The outreach formed part of the authority’s nationwide campaign to help consumers understand their rights and responsibilities when purchasing and using petroleum products.
Led by Volta Regional Manager Prospero Kojo Cyriaano-Olympic, with support from teams across the NPA’s directorates, the exercise offered practical guidance on checking fuel quantities, handling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) safely and reporting suspected malpractice.
Officials demonstrated how the standard 10-litre measuring can can be used to check whether fuel dispensed at retail outlets matches the quantity purchased. The demonstrations were intended to help motorists recognise and report possible under-delivery.
Festivalgoers and food vendors also received education on LPG cylinder handling and the importance of proper ventilation in areas where gas is used.
The NPA distributed educational materials containing its Call Centre contacts and encouraged consumers to report suspected fuel adulteration and discrepancies in quantities supplied.
The campaign culminated at the festival’s grand durbar at Jubilee Park in Ho on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Traditional and government leaders attending included Togbe Afede XIV and Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah.
This year’s festival was held under the theme, “United in Purpose, Investing in People and Infrastructure for Sustainable National Development.”
