The Adenta Circuit Court has granted GH¢1 million bail to Adjetey Isaac Noi, a 28-year-old branch manager of Oyibi Area Community Bank PLC, who is accused of stealing the same amount from the institution.
Noi pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing before the court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie. His bail requires two sureties, both of whom must justify it with landed property.
Defence counsel argued that Noi was unlikely to abscond because he had a fixed residence at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region. The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2027.
Presenting the prosecution’s account, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo said the alleged transactions occurred between March and September 2025. He accused Noi of reactivating a dormant account belonging to Nii Adjei Sowatey without the customer’s consent.
The prosecution alleged that GH¢1 million was transferred from an internal bank account into the reactivated account and subsequently moved to accounts at other financial institutions.
According to Chief Inspector Lanyo, the suspected irregularities came to light during an audit on September 28, 2026. The Head of Audit and Inspection at ARB Apex Bank PLC and a team of auditors visited the branch after receiving intelligence about possible fraudulent transactions.
The auditors reported their findings to the head office, after which management directed that a police complaint be lodged.
Noi was subsequently arrested and questioned. The prosecution said he did not provide a satisfactory explanation for the transfer during interrogation.
The allegations remain before the court, with Noi maintaining his not-guilty plea.
