Petrol and Diesel Prices Set to Fall as LPG Faces 18.5% Increase

Petrol, diesel prices to drop

Petrol and diesel prices in Ghana are expected to decline from Friday, October 16, 2026, while consumers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) could face a substantial increase, according to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

The chamber’s outlook for October’s second pricing window projects a 1.67% reduction in petrol prices to GH¢17.67 per liter. Diesel is forecast to fall by 3.32% to GH¢19.30 per liter.

LPG, however, is projected to rise by 18.5% to GH¢20.60 per kilogram, potentially increasing cooking expenses for households, restaurants and other businesses. The estimates are on a cash-purchase basis, and actual retail prices may differ among marketing companies.

The contrasting projections reflect movements in international petroleum markets. During the review period, refined petrol prices declined by 3.93% and diesel by 6.68%, while LPG increased by 7.77%. Average crude oil prices nevertheless rose by 2.03% to US$126.73 per barrel.

Currency depreciation partly offset the potential savings from cheaper petrol and diesel imports. The cedi weakened by 1.61%, with the average bank exchange rate reaching GH¢11.8222 to the US dollar between September 26 and October 11, 2026.

While the projected reductions could ease fuel expenses for motorists and transport operators, the anticipated LPG increase would place additional pressure on consumers who depend on gas for cooking and commercial activities.
