The public dispute between media personality Afia Schwarzenegger and Bishop Daniel Obinim has escalated as controversy continues over the cleric’s marriage to gospel musician Florence Obinim.
The clash has unfolded through videos, social media commentary and threats of legal action, drawing further attention to the couple’s widely discussed marital difficulties.
Speculation about their relationship intensified after reports suggested that Florence’s family had initiated traditional divorce processes following more than two decades of marriage. Changes to the branding of her social media page also attracted attention after the name “Florence Obinim” was replaced with “Lioness Ministries.”
However, Florence’s biography reportedly continues to identify her as Dr Florence Obinim, meaning the surname has not been completely removed from her online profile.
Afia Schwarzenegger entered the controversy after an audio recording circulated online in which a voice attributed to Bishop Obinim allegedly discussed the authenticity of Florence’s marriage certificate.
The authenticity and full context of the recording have not been independently established.
Reacting to the audio, Afia accused the founder of the International God’s Way Church of mistreating Florence and described him as a “toothless bulldog.”
She argued that knowingly signing or presenting a forged marriage document could have legal consequences and threatened to forward the circulating recording to the Inspector-General of Police for investigation.
Afia also declared that she would continue supporting Florence regardless of the outcome of the marital dispute. She maintained that her friendship with the gospel musician would not be determined by Obinim’s objections.
Bishop Obinim subsequently threatened to pursue defamation claims against Afia Schwarzenegger and another social media personality known as Night Witch.
In a video shared online, the cleric accused both women of making damaging statements about him over an extended period. He warned that legal proceedings would await them whenever they returned to Ghana.
Obinim did not identify every statement he considered defamatory or announce a specific date for filing the proposed lawsuits. No court action arising from the latest threats had been publicly confirmed at the time of reporting.
The dispute has generated intense discussion online, with supporters of the personalities involved debating the alleged marriage certificate, the state of the Obinims’ relationship and the limits of public commentary on private family matters.
Neither the claims about the certificate nor the accusations exchanged by the parties should be treated as legally established unless verified by the relevant authorities or determined by a court.
