Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has announced that she is stepping back temporarily from music-related activities and public appearances after undergoing major surgery.
The 24-year-old Afrobeats star shared the health update with fans through her Instagram Story, following a period of reduced online activity.
Addressing her supporters, known as the Mobstarrs, the singer explained that her recovery would take longer than initially anticipated because the procedure was more complicated than expected.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like,” she wrote. “I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected.”

Ayra Starr did not disclose the medical condition that led to the operation or provide details about the procedure.
Her decision to maintain privacy means any online claims about the nature of her health problem remain speculative.

The announcement came during an important week in Ayra Starr’s career as fans received their first look at her acting debut in Children of Blood and Bone.
The Paramount Pictures fantasy film is based on Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel and was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Its ensemble cast includes Thuso Mbedu, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Regina King, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Tosin Cole and Lashana Lynch.
