Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has announced that she is stepping back temporarily from music-related activities and public appearances after undergoing major surgery.

The 24-year-old Afrobeats star shared the health update with fans through her Instagram Story, following a period of reduced online activity.

Addressing her supporters, known as the Mobstarrs, the singer explained that her recovery would take longer than initially anticipated because the procedure was more complicated than expected.

“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like,” she wrote. “I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected.”

Singer Keeps Medical Details Private

Ayra Starr did not disclose the medical condition that led to the operation or provide details about the procedure.

Her decision to maintain privacy means any online claims about the nature of her health problem remain speculative.

She reassured fans that she needed time to rest and intended to return when her recovery allowed.

“I just need a bit of rest, and I’ll be back,” the singer said.

Hospital Photos Reassure Fans

Following the announcement, Ayra Starr shared images showing her smiling and making a peace sign while recovering.

The pictures reassured concerned fans that she was in good spirits despite the unexpected complexity of the surgery.

Supporters responded with messages of encouragement, prayers and wishes for a complete recovery. Several music-industry colleagues and entertainment personalities also publicly expressed their support.

Starrgirl Album Still Scheduled for August

Despite taking time away to recover, Ayra Starr indicated that the campaign for her forthcoming album, Starrgirl, would continue.

She encouraged fans to pre-order the project and promote it among friends, relatives and neighbors.

“Starrgirl is coming so soooon,” she wrote. “I need everyone out there spreading the word.”

The album remains scheduled for release on August 14, 2026. Her official store lists signed CDs and vinyl editions with the same release date, while Roc Nation continues to promote the project. Ayra Starr’s official store
