Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif is spearheading Ghana’s impressive showing at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) after securing four major nominations.

The organizers officially unveiled the nominees on July 15, 2026, with the reigning Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artist of the Year emerging as the country’s most-nominated artiste. His recognition further cements his growing influence on the African music scene.

Black Sherif Earns Four Major Nominations

Black Sherif received nominations in four highly competitive categories:

  • Album of the YearTop of The Morning Era
  • Song of the YearSo It Goes
  • Best Male Artiste – West Africa
  • Best Male Rap Act

His four nominations place him ahead of every other Ghanaian nominee this year and second only to Nigerian superstar Davido, who leads the overall list with five nominations.

Ghana Makes Strong Impression Across Multiple Categories

Ghana recorded a remarkable 21 nominations across the 2026 AFRIMMA awards, with artistes, producers, video directors, and dancers all earning recognition for their contributions to African entertainment.

Among the standout nominees is Sarkodie, who has been shortlisted for the prestigious AFRIMMA Timeless Impact Award in recognition of his enduring influence on African hip-hop.

Singer Moliy also enjoyed an impressive outing, earning nominations for:

  • Best Female Artiste – West Africa
  • Best Female Reggae/Dancehall Artiste

Music duo Dope Nation secured a nomination for Best African Group following the success of their hit song “Kakalika.”

Dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale was nominated in the Best Male Reggae/Dancehall category, adding another continental accolade to his career.

Ghana’s Producers, Directors and Dancers Also Recognized

Ghana’s creative talent behind the scenes also featured prominently on this year’s nominees list.

Renowned producer MOG Beatz received a nomination for Music Producer of the Year, while celebrated filmmaker Babs Direction earned recognition in the Best Video Director category.

In the dance category, Ghana dominated the nominations with Incredible Zigi, Dancegod Lloyd, and Hooliboy all competing for Best African Dancer, highlighting the country’s growing influence in choreography and performance arts.

AFRIMMA 2026 Set for Dallas

The 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards and the accompanying AFRIMMA Musicfest will take place on September 12, 2026, at the Annette Strauss Square within the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas, Texas.

Black Sherif has already been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the event, where he will not only compete for multiple awards but also represent Ghana on one of Africa’s biggest international music stages.

With 21 nominations across various categories, Ghana heads into AFRIMMA 2026 with strong momentum and hopes of delivering another memorable performance on the continental awards stage.
