Nikki Ross Bellamy

Acclaimed American gospel singer, pianist, organist, arranger and composer Nikki Ross Bellamy has died at the age of 54.

Professionally known as Nikki Ross, the respected Houston musician passed away on August 14, 2026. News of her death prompted tributes from churches, musicians and gospel music supporters across the United States and beyond.

Ross was widely admired for her powerful voice, extensive vocal range and commanding stage presence. Gifted with absolute pitch, she was also known for her ability to sing while playing keyboards during live performances.

Over the course of her career, Ross worked as a featured vocalist and background singer with several leading figures in gospel and contemporary music.

Her collaborators included Kirk Franklin, Ricky Dillard, James Fortune, Israel Houghton, PJ Morton, Robert Glasper and Harry Connick Jr. She also appeared on television with Connick and contributed to notable recordings, including Dillard’s “There Is No Way” and “I Surrender All.”

Ross remained committed to music despite facing serious health challenges later in her life. She experienced a period of temporary blindness but subsequently returned to recording and public performance.

Her final reported public appearance came in July 2026 at the Gospel Music Workshop of America convention, just weeks before her death.

Beyond her international career, Ross maintained strong connections to Houston’s gospel community. She was a long-standing member of the New Jerusalem Churches of Sound Doctrine, where her music was regarded as an important part of her Christian ministry.

Following her passing, the church paid tribute to her contribution to gospel music and her commitment to sharing her faith with audiences around the world while remaining rooted in her home congregation.

Ross is survived by her husband, Ty Bellamy, their children and other members of her extended family.

Fellow musicians and gospel historians have described her death as a significant loss to Houston’s music community and the wider gospel industry.
