The brothers of late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman have asked a Los Angeles court to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, as administrator of the actor’s multimillion-dollar estate.
Kevin and Derrick Boseman filed the petition on July 17, 2026, with the authorization of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman. The filing alleges that Ledward has not fully distributed the estate nearly four years after a court approved its final distribution.
Ledward had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
Boseman died without a will
Boseman died from colon cancer in August 2020 at the age of 43. Because he did not leave a valid will, his assets became subject to California’s probate process.
Under an October 4, 2022 court order, Ledward was entitled to 50% of the estate. Boseman’s parents were each allocated 25%.
Court records initially valued the estate at more than $3.8 million, reportedly including cash, an individual retirement account and stock in Chadwick Boseman Inc.
The brothers’ petition claims that the distribution ordered by the court remains incomplete and that Ledward continues to exercise control over the estate without sufficient involvement from Boseman’s parents.
Family questions accounting of assets
The filing seeks a complete accounting of the estate and raises questions about assets that the family alleges were not fully disclosed or distributed.
These reportedly include SAG-AFTRA royalties and residual payments, image and intellectual-property rights, real estate, personal belongings, insurance benefits and a previously undisclosed bank account.
The petition also alleges that a $40,000 long-term-care policy intended for Carolyn Boseman has not been transferred.
These claims have not yet been determined by the court.
Brothers request independent administrator
Kevin and Derrick are asking the court to suspend and remove Ledward from her administrative role. They have proposed that professional fiduciary and forensic accountant Jason Rubin be appointed to take over management of the estate.
The filing also asks the court to compel the distribution of outstanding assets and require a detailed accounting supported by receipts and other records.
According to the brothers, independent oversight would help identify any unaccounted-for property and provide clarity regarding the management of Boseman’s intellectual property and creative legacy.
Leroy and Carolyn have assigned their respective interests in the estate to Boseman Family LLC, allowing the entity and their sons to pursue the matter on their behalf.
In a statement, Kevin and Derrick said their goal was to secure transparency, enforce the court’s order and preserve their brother’s legacy with dignity and respect.
The dispute remains before the Los Angeles probate court, and no ruling has been issued on the family’s request to replace Ledward as administrator.
