Church-Side Account Raises Litigation Context Over Former Bishops in Belgian Documentary

Reports presenting Lighthouse Chapel International’s position have questioned whether a Belgian documentary provided sufficient context about two former bishops who criticized the church.

Emmanuel Oko Mensah and Lawrence Odonkor featured in the VRT NWS Pano investigation into Go Church, which is affiliated with the Lighthouse church network.

According to the church-side account, both men are among six former ministers involved in litigation against the church. The reports argue that their legal dispute was relevant background for viewers assessing their contributions to the documentary.

Settlement Demand Cited

The account states that the former ministers submitted a written settlement demand of US$12,241,583.98.

It says the figure was calculated by multiplying underlying claims of approximately US$3 million by four, citing the fourfold restitution principle referenced in Luke 19:8.

The church’s legal team reportedly rejected the proposed settlement in writing on July 14, 2025.

These details reflect the account presented on the church’s behalf. The underlying settlement correspondence and court documents were not available for independent verification.

Documentary Criticism Remains Separate

The reports contend that the litigation and settlement negotiations should have been disclosed as part of the documentary’s background.

However, involvement in a legal dispute does not, by itself, establish that a contributor’s testimony is inaccurate. Similarly, a settlement demand is not a court award or a judicial finding on the merits of either side’s claims.

The material provided did not include a response from Mensah, Odonkor or the documentary’s producers to the specific criticism about omitted context.
