Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has advised single women against entering relationships simply because a man shows interest or is ready for marriage.
Speaking during an episode of her YouTube podcast, Adegbite encouraged women to take an active role in choosing their partners, placing compatibility, shared values and mutual respect ahead of the desire to be chosen.
She explained that romantic attention alone does not establish whether two people can build a healthy relationship. Women, she said, should consider whether a prospective partner can offer love, support and a shared commitment to their future.
“Ladies, don’t choose someone because they chose you. Choose someone because they are right for you,” she said.
Discussing relationships between older women and younger men, the actress cautioned against mistaking the excitement of feeling desirable for evidence of a suitable partnership.
She urged women to look beyond that initial attraction and assess a suitor’s character, emotional maturity and readiness to accept the responsibilities that come with a committed relationship.
For women with children or established family obligations, Adegbite said a potential partner’s willingness to respect those responsibilities should be an important consideration.
She also encouraged women to examine whether a man has clear goals and whether his plans align with the life they hope to build together.
Adegbite maintained that age should carry less weight than respect, emotional security and the ability to support one another. Whether a partner is younger, older or the same age, she said, the priority should be finding someone with whom a meaningful and lasting partnership is possible.
