Deyemi Okanlawon Jokes He Was “Too Expensive” for Blood Sisters After Character’s Early Exit

Deyemi Okanlawon

Nigerian actor Deyemi Okanlawon has humorously suggested that his character’s early departure from the hit Netflix series Blood Sisters was due to his acting fees, joking that the production team “couldn’t afford” to keep him on screen.

The lighthearted remark came during a promotional visit to Ghana, where the acclaimed actor shared laughs with media personalities while discussing his role in the popular drama series.

Playful Exchange During Ghana Interview

Speaking in an interview with Hitz 103.9 FM, Okanlawon was asked about the surprisingly brief appearance of his character, Kola Ademola, in the show’s storyline.

Responding with a smile, the actor quipped that his exit had little to do with the script and everything to do with his supposed price tag.

“They couldn’t afford me, so they had to kill me off,” he joked, drawing laughter during the conversation.

The actor continued the playful banter by encouraging Ghanaian filmmakers to consider casting him, humorously suggesting that if Nigerian producers could no longer meet his financial demands, Ghana’s abundant gold resources might make it possible.

Kola Ademola’s Death Was Central to the Story

Despite Okanlawon’s tongue-in-cheek explanation, the fate of his character was always a crucial element of Blood Sisters’ storyline.

In the first season, Kola Ademola is portrayed as a wealthy but abusive fiancé whose accidental death at the hands of Kemi while she attempts to protect Sarah becomes the pivotal event that drives the entire narrative forward. The incident sets off the chain of secrets, investigations, and dramatic twists that define the series.
Brief Return in Season Two

Following the release of Blood Sisters Season 2 on Netflix, fans noticed Okanlawon’s brief reappearance in early flashback scenes, prompting renewed curiosity about why his character had such limited screen time.

His recent comments in Ghana made it clear that any suggestion of budgetary reasons was made in jest, offering fans a humorous take on one of the show’s most memorable plot developments while highlighting his continued affection for the series and its audience.
