Ghanaian content creator Headless YouTuber, formerly known in the music industry as Kula, has ruled out a return to active music, saying the demands associated with the profession no longer suit his preferred lifestyle.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, the 2019 Ghana Music Awards Unsung winner revealed that he initially ventured into digital content creation to raise money for his music career.
However, his experience in the digital media space exposed him to a more manageable working routine, ultimately convincing him to abandon plans of returning to music.
“Honestly speaking, music is so stressful. When I started content creation, the plan was to do it to get money to do music,” he said.
Kula explained that producing and promoting a song requires substantial financial investment and extensive planning. Beyond paying for studio sessions, an artiste may have to hire dancers, produce music videos, embark on media tours and coordinate live performances.
He said the demanding promotional cycle made music emotionally, financially and physically exhausting.
The content creator also disclosed that his introverted personality made certain aspects of the entertainment industry particularly challenging. He found it uncomfortable to remain backstage for several hours, often late at night, while waiting for his turn to perform.
By comparison, digital content creation allows him to work during the day and maintain greater control over his schedule.
According to Kula, the flexibility gives him more time to spend with his family and supports the work-life balance he now considers essential.
He has also adopted a strict policy of avoiding professional work on weekends. Even when a major story emerges, he prefers to hold it until Monday rather than sacrifice time reserved for rest and family.
Kula said the benefits of his current career have outweighed his initial ambition to use content creation merely as a source of funding for music.
“I would rather just create content during the day and spend time with the family,” he stated.
His decision marks a significant transition from recording artiste to full-time digital creator, despite the recognition he received after winning the Unsung category at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards.
