Former Ghana’s Most Beautiful contestant Ohemaa Sappama Angela has denied allegations that she stole fabric from a shop at Tafo Market in Kumasi, describing the incident as an unfortunate misunderstanding.
Ohemaa, who represented the Bono East Region in the 2023 edition of the popular beauty pageant, spoke publicly after reports and video clips connected to the alleged incident circulated widely on social media.
The viral claims accused her of leaving the shop with unpaid items, reportedly including Abaya lace and a woman’s dress. However, the former contestant insists she did not deliberately take anything from the business.
Ohemaa Explains What Happened
According to Ohemaa, she entered the shop only to ask about the prices of some fabrics. She claimed that she could not immediately find an attendant to assist her and subsequently left without completing a purchase.
She said the misunderstanding arose after her driver mistakenly loaded a sack containing unpaid fabric into her vehicle.
Ohemaa explained that the driver apparently believed a transaction had already been completed and that the items were ready to be transported. She maintained that she was unaware the sack had been placed inside the vehicle at the time.
The former beauty queen strongly rejected suggestions that the incident was planned or that she intended to leave the market with goods she had not purchased.
“There Was No Intention to Steal”
Ohemaa stressed that her visit to the shop was a normal commercial inquiry and not an attempt to take merchandise unlawfully.
Her account presents the incident as a communication failure involving her driver and the shop rather than an act of shoplifting.
She argued that the circumstances had been misrepresented online, with many social media users reportedly forming conclusions before hearing her side of the story.
The former GMB contestant is seeking to distinguish between the accidental loading of the items and the deliberate criminal intent suggested by the viral allegations.
Viral Reports Spark Public Reactions
Reports of the incident generated widespread discussion because of Ohemaa’s public profile and previous appearance in the Ghana’s Most Beautiful competition.
Some social media users expressed surprise over the allegations, while others called for caution until the full circumstances surrounding the incident had been established.
The circulation of short video clips also intensified public interest, with different accounts emerging about what allegedly happened at the market.
Ohemaa’s explanation has since added another perspective to the controversy, as she attempts to correct what she considers a distorted public account.
Former Contestant Seeks to Clear Her Name
By addressing the allegations, Ohemaa hopes to protect her reputation and reassure followers that she was not involved in a deliberate act of theft.
She maintained that the entire episode resulted from a mix-up and insisted that she had no knowledge that unpaid goods were inside her vehicle.
