Ghanaian musician Lasmid has called for greater appreciation of local disc jockeys, highlighting their contribution to promoting artistes and expanding the reach of Ghanaian music.
In a social media post, the singer reflected on how DJs influenced his love for music while growing up. He noted that their ability to introduce audiences to songs and generate excitement around performers helped both emerging and established artistes reach more listeners.
According to Lasmid, DJs do more than play songs. They create memorable experiences and provide the musical backdrop to important moments in people’s lives contributions he believes are too often overlooked.
He credited those experiences with shaping his own musical appreciation and artistic journey, underscoring the influence DJs can have on future generations of performers.
His remarks also highlighted the relationship between artistes and DJs, whose support helps songs gain visibility and connect with audiences.
Lasmid clarified that his comments were not intended as an attack on anyone in the entertainment industry. Instead, he said they were meant to encourage an honest conversation about the value DJs bring to Ghanaian music.
He urged greater recognition of their work, stressing that their role in nurturing talent, promoting songs and sustaining music culture deserves appreciation.
