A public dispute has erupted between two prominent figures in Ghana’s movie industry, Kwadwo Nkansah—popularly known as Lilwin—and veteran actor Van Vicker over a proposed film production in Kumasi.
Lilwin has vowed never to cast Van Vicker in any of his future projects, accusing the actor of withdrawing shortly before filming was scheduled to begin. Van Vicker, however, strongly denies abandoning the production, insisting that he never formally accepted the role.
Lilwin Accuses Van Vicker of Disrupting Production
According to Lilwin, Van Vicker’s alleged last-minute decision affected the production schedule and created difficulties for the team preparing to shoot the movie.
The Kumawood actor and filmmaker described the situation as unprofessional and accused Van Vicker of failing to show adequate respect to stakeholders in the Kumawood industry. He subsequently declared that he would no longer consider the actor for any of his productions.
Lilwin also suggested that the industry has several other talented actors capable of taking on major roles, making it unnecessary for him to pursue future collaborations with Van Vicker.
Van Vicker Denies Confirming the Role
Van Vicker has rejected Lilwin’s version of events, arguing that he could not have withdrawn from a production to which he had never committed.
The actor explained that a director contacted him on Lilwin’s behalf regarding two films expected to be shot in Kumasi. However, the initial dates reportedly conflicted with commitments already on his schedule.
When alternative dates were proposed, Van Vicker said he did not confirm his availability. Instead, he asked for the scripts and indicated that he needed to review his calendar before making a final decision.
After assessing his schedule, he informed the director several days before the proposed filming dates that he would be unable to participate. The production team later offered to reduce his time on set from about three or four days to two, but his existing commitments still prevented him from accepting the roles.
Van Vicker therefore maintains that describing the situation as a last-minute cancellation is misleading because negotiations never resulted in a confirmed agreement.
Disagreement Moves Into the Public Domain
Van Vicker also expressed disappointment that the private scheduling disagreement had been taken into the public domain. He said he was unwilling to participate in what he considered a misleading account of the proposed collaboration.
Lilwin, however, has refused to retreat from his position. He continues to dispute Van Vicker’s explanation and maintains that the actor’s handling of the discussions was disrespectful and unprofessional.
The controversy now centres on whether Van Vicker formally accepted the role before declaring himself unavailable. While Lilwin believes the actor abandoned the project, Van Vicker insists that the discussions never moved beyond preliminary negotiations.
The public exchange has attracted considerable attention from movie fans and renewed debate about communication, scheduling and professionalism within Ghana’s film industry.
