Spice Girls singer Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm has addressed speculation surrounding Victoria Beckham’s absence from her recent wedding, confirming that her former bandmate was unable to attend because of prior FIFA World Cup commitments.
Speaking to Australia’s KIIS 106.5 radio station, Mel C said Victoria was “very disappointed” to miss the celebration but had already committed to travelling to the United States with her husband, David Beckham.
Mel C married her partner in July 2026 during a two-part celebration that began with a legal ceremony in Sydney and concluded with a lakeside reception in England’s Lake District.
Other Spice Girls Attended the Celebration
Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner attended the English celebration, creating a partial Spice Girls reunion.
Victoria could not join the group in person, but Mel C made it clear that her absence was caused by scheduling difficulties rather than any disagreement between the former bandmates.
According to the singer, Victoria remained closely involved in the wedding preparations and found other meaningful ways to support her.
David Beckham’s FIFA Role Created Scheduling Conflict
David Beckham had contractual responsibilities as a FIFA ambassador connected to the World Cup final.
The commitments required the Beckham family to travel to the United States, where Victoria attended the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with her husband and their youngest children.
Mel C jokingly revealed that Victoria, who is not known as a devoted football fan, tried to avoid the trip so she could attend the wedding. However, the family’s arrangements had been made long in advance and could not be changed.
Victoria Beckham Designed Mel C’s Wedding Dresses
Although she was absent from the ceremony, Victoria played a significant role in creating Mel C’s bridal wardrobe.
She designed a minimalist ivory silk slip dress decorated with hand-stitched floral lace appliqués for the Lake District celebration.
Victoria also created a separate piece worn during the Australian legal ceremony. The item served as the bride’s traditional “something borrowed.”
Her involvement allowed her to contribute personally to the wedding even though she could not attend.
Flowers and Live Updates Kept Victoria Connected
Mel C said Victoria sent a large bouquet of white flowers to the wedding venue and remained in regular contact throughout the celebration.
The other Spice Girls reportedly sent her photographs and live updates, allowing her to follow the ceremony and reception from the United States.
Mel C’s comments suggest there are no hard feelings between the longtime friends despite Victoria’s absence.
Mel C and Victoria Reunite in Ibiza
The pair later had an opportunity to celebrate together when Mel C travelled to Ibiza for a DJ performance.
During the trip, she reunited with Victoria for a private catch-up and belated celebration of the marriage.
The reunion brought an end to speculation about Victoria’s absence and reinforced the close relationship that continues among the former Spice Girls.
