Big Brother Naija Season 4 winner and actress Mercy Eke has candidly shared the story behind her decision to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) in 2018, revealing that societal pressure and prevailing beauty trends played a major role in her choice.
Speaking in an interview clip released on July 6, 2026, the reality television star said she was influenced by the growing popularity of cosmetic procedures at the time, despite already having what she described as a naturally slim and curvy figure.
“Everyone Was Doing It”
Reflecting on her decision, Mercy admitted that the surge in body enhancement procedures made her feel compelled to follow the trend.
She explained that her primary motivation was not necessarily to dramatically alter her appearance but to achieve a flatter stomach through liposuction while also undergoing a BBL.
According to her, the cosmetic surgery trend was at its peak in 2018, and seeing so many people embrace the procedures influenced her own decision.
Kept the Surgery a Secret
Mercy also disclosed that she deliberately kept her plans hidden from her family, particularly her mother, because she feared they would discourage her from going through with the procedure.
Instead, she said she and two close friends secretly planned the surgery together. The trio reportedly saved money, organized the process, and underwent their procedures around the same period without informing their families beforehand.
Admits She Didn’t Properly Research the Surgeon
Looking back, Mercy acknowledged that she made one of her biggest mistakes by failing to thoroughly investigate the surgeon who performed the operation.
She admitted she did not spend enough time reviewing the doctor’s qualifications or researching the potential health risks associated with cosmetic surgery before having the procedure in Nigeria.
The media personality said that, with the benefit of hindsight, she would approach such a life-changing decision much more carefully today.
“Recovery Was Extremely Painful”
Mercy described the recovery process as far more difficult than many people portray on social media.
She identified the mandatory lymphatic drainage massages following surgery as the most painful part of her recovery. According to her, the massages involved nurses applying intense pressure to help drain excess fluids from her body, making the experience particularly agonizing.
She also revealed that for two weeks after the operation, she was prohibited from sleeping on her back or sitting directly on her buttocks. Instead, she had to remain on her stomach throughout the recovery period to protect the surgical results.
The physical discomfort was so severe that she said she cried continuously during the first three days after the operation before the pain gradually became more manageable.
No Regrets, But a Different Approach Today
Despite the difficult recovery, Mercy said she remains satisfied with the outcome of the procedure and feels confident in her appearance.
However, she stressed that her experience has changed the way she views cosmetic surgery. If she were ever to undergo another procedure, she said she would invest significantly more time in researching the surgeon’s qualifications, safety record, and patient reviews before making a decision.
Her candid remarks have reignited conversations about cosmetic surgery, body image, and the influence of beauty standards, with many praising her openness about both the emotional pressures and the physical realities of undergoing body enhancement procedures.
