Nigerian musician and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has revealed that he missed an opportunity to meet Jay-Z because he had already committed to performing for approximately 8,000 fans.
Speaking with Waihiga Mwaura on BBC’s Focus on Africa, the singer described the American rapper and businessman as his “North Star” in music and entrepreneurship.
Mr Eazi said an invitation to a gathering connected to Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift project presented a chance to meet Jay-Z. However, the event clashed with a scheduled concert for which organizers had already paid him.
He chose to honor the performance rather than disappoint his audience, believing another opportunity to meet his inspiration could come later. Despite collaborating with Beyoncé, he said he had yet to meet Jay-Z.
Business Interests Across Africa
The singer also discussed his expanding entrepreneurial activities, saying he was directly or indirectly involved in businesses across approximately 24 African countries.
His interests include sports development through the Locker Room Bonus initiative, which provides financial rewards to athletes after victories in participating competitions. Payments are delivered directly to players through mobile money wallets.
Marriage and Personal Growth
Reflecting on his marriage to actress and fashion personality Temi Otedola, Mr Eazi said the relationship had helped him become more self-aware.
He explained that a committed partner can act as a mirror, revealing strengths and weaknesses that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The musician also spoke about his current creative direction, saying he wanted his latest music to communicate enjoyment and positive energy, including songs younger audiences could dance to.
