Nadia Buari Warns of Lasting Harm to Children Exposed to Domestic Violence

Nadia Buari

Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari has condemned domestic violence, warning that children who experience or witness abuse at home can carry emotional wounds long after physical injuries have healed.

In a social media statement shared on October 8, 2026, Buari urged the public to recognise violence in households with children as a child protection concern rather than dismissing it as a private disagreement between partners.

She said a home should provide security and comfort, but abuse can leave children afraid of the very people responsible for protecting them.

According to the actress, the effects can include anxiety, guilt, anger, disrupted sleep and withdrawal. She also highlighted the possibility of children reverting to behaviours they had previously outgrown as they struggle to cope with distress.

Buari further warned that repeated exposure to violence could distort children’s understanding of relationships, leading them to regard aggression and intimidation as normal expressions of love or authority.

Addressing parents in abusive relationships, she challenged the pressure to preserve a marriage at the expense of personal safety and children’s wellbeing.

“Abuse rarely stops without help. Apologies and promises do not erase violence,” she said.

The actress urged those experiencing abuse to seek support and prioritise their safety and that of their children. She stressed that cultural expectations, marital commitments and concern about public opinion should never serve as excuses for tolerating violence.

Her message called on families and communities to take abuse seriously and protect children from environments dominated by intimidation, ending with a reminder that “love is not fear.”
