Nick Cannon Links Family Decisions to Unresolved Pain

American television host Nick Cannon has reflected on the emotional struggles behind the growth of his family, describing some of his decisions as a “trauma response” to his divorce from singer Mariah Carey.

In a September 2025 appearance on The Breakfast Club, Cannon said he had not taken enough time to heal after the marriage ended in 2016. The entertainer, who has fathered 12 children with six women, acknowledged that greater self-reflection might have changed how he approached subsequent relationships.

Cannon explained that financial freedom contributed to his choices, allowing him to move forward without fully examining his emotional motivations.

“It was more of being careless, being frivolous with my process,” he said.

Looking back, he recognised that entering new relationships or having more children did not resolve the pain he was carrying. Instead, he said, unresolved issues followed him into new situations.

The television personality suggested that taking time to process the divorce could have encouraged him to make decisions more slowly and deliberately.

His reflections focused on his own behavior and the personal healing he believes he overlooked, offering an account of how emotional pain and financial freedom influenced his approach to relationships and fatherhood.
