
Veteran Nollywood actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi has passed away, confirmed Monday by the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
Guild President Abubakar Yakubu revealed Akiyesi “slept and did not wake up” on Sunday in Abuja. His remains are at a morgue in the capital as the guild awaits family details. Circumstances remain undisclosed.
Starting in the late 1990s, Akiyesi starred in over 100 films, including Marry Who You Love, Deadly Affair, and Desperate Ladies. Tributes flood social media from fans and colleagues honoring his legacy in Nigeria’s film industry.
He was born in Ososo, Edo State, Akiyesi initially aspired to be a lawyer, but he shifted focus after being admitted to study Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan. He broke into the industry in the 1990s with a breakout role in the film Deadly Affair (1995).
