Gifty Nana Afriyie, the wife of Kumawood actor and comedian Oteele, has confirmed that the couple is currently separated following recent controversies surrounding their marriage.
Gifty disclosed their marital situation during a TikTok Live session while responding to widespread speculation that she and the actor, whose real name is Stephen Yaw Mawunyo, had divorced.
She clarified that their marriage has not been legally dissolved. According to her, they are observing a structured period of separation to determine whether their relationship can be repaired.
“We are currently separated. We are on separation, so if nothing good comes from it, then whatever comes next is what we will embrace,” she stated.
Gifty explained that the future of the marriage would depend on developments during the separation period. Her comments suggest that the couple has not completely ruled out reconciliation but will accept the eventual outcome if efforts to resolve their differences are unsuccessful.
The marriage reportedly came under pressure following public controversy over an alleged private video involving Oteele. The incident generated intense discussion on social media and raised allegations of extramarital relationships involving the actor.
Oteele subsequently issued public apologies and acknowledged that his conduct had disappointed his wife, children and other family members.
The actor expressed regret over the situation and indicated that he intended to seek forgiveness from his wife. He also disclosed plans to approach her with family elders in an attempt to resolve the dispute and restore their marriage.
Gifty’s latest statement confirms that the couple is currently living apart while considering the future of their relationship.
She urged the public to distinguish between separation and divorce, stressing that no official divorce has taken place.
